How does it work?

During a Virtual Dementia Tour experience, trained facilitators guide participants outfitted with patented devices that alter their senses while they try to complete common everyday tasks and exercises. The Tour enables participants to experience for themselves the physical and mental challenges those with dementia face every day, and then use the experience to develop empathy that can help them connect with individuals who have dementia.

About the Virtual Dementia Tour

The Virtual Dementia Touruses a scientifically proven method designed to increase sensitivity toward those with dementia. It uses patented sensory tools and instruction based on research conducted by P.K. Beville, M.S., a specialist in geriatrics and the founder of Second Wind Dreams® – a nonprofit corporation whose mission is to change the perception of aging through the fulfillment of dreams and the offering of innovative educational opportunities to caregivers and communities.

Pine Haven Christian Communities is licensed to offer the Virtual Dementia Tour, and includes this experience as orientation for all staff members who work at any of our campuses.
