About the Stefanie H. Weill Center for the Performing Arts

The Weill Center for the Performing Arts is a 1,150-seat live event venue located in Downtown Sheboygan, WI. Each season, the Weill Center presents 80-100 events including music, comedy, variety acts, movies and more. Originally built in 1928, the theater was restored in 2001 to its Spanish Colonial Revival style and atmospheric interior. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Overview

The Weill Center is seeking a talented and experienced Audio Engineer to join our production team on a part-time / per show basis. This position is responsible for setting up, operating and maintaining the PA and Audio Equipment used to amplify, enhance and mix audio for our Weill Center events in either an A1 or A2 capacity depending on the needs of the event.

The Weill Center’s audio system includes a Nexo line-array PA system with subs & front fills, Midas mixing console, a monitor system and a wired/wireless microphone package. Weill Center Audio Engineers work as key members of the tech team, collaborating with both in-house and touring production crews to help ensure high quality performances meet the expectations of both artists and patrons.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Serve as the A1 or A2 for Weill Center events from Audio Prep, Day-of-Show Operations and Restore.
  • Collaborate with in-house and touring technical teams to produce high-quality audio reinforcement for events.
  • Mix live audio for bands, orchestras, theatrical performances, speakers, and more.
  • Set up, operate, and maintain monitors, amps, PA system, speakers, mics, console, and more.
  • Manage sound checks, run monitors and front of house console as needed.
  • Assist tours with setting up their audio systems and tying into House PA.
  • Trouble shoot and resolve technical issues quickly and effectively.
  • Operate linesets and rigging equipment as needed (training provided as needed)
  • Additional stagehand work as needed (unload/reload trucks, set up/strike event sets and equipment, ensure stage cleanliness, set up orchestra shell, etc.)
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Weill Center Employee Expectations

  • Be present and on time at all scheduled rehearsals and performances.
  • Accurately track and report hours worked to Production Manager.
  • Project a positive, professional and polished image of the Weill Center at all times.
  • Participate in all staff meetings or training as requested.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Minimum 4 years of professional experience mixing audio at FOH and Monitors for live events.
  • Degree or formal training in audio/sound engineering preferred.
  • Advanced understanding of DSP systems and large-scale system deployment.
  • Experience mixing on multiple consoles, ie; Midas, Yamaha, A&H & Digico.
  • Proficient with both wired and wireless microphone systems.
  • Strong communication, time management and problem-solving skills.
  • Abilit to adapt and remain calm under pressure.
  • Availability to work evenings, weekends and non-standard shifts.
  • Ability to lift at least 50 lbs or more as needed.
